Tenth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety

Representatives of the RPC recently participated in the 10th Review Meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS), held at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

The Convention on Nuclear Safety is an international legal instrument that aims to maintain a high level of nuclear safety worldwide through the enhancement of national measures and international cooperation. The Review Meetings provide a platform for Contracting Parties to present and peer-review national reports on the implementation of their obligations under the Convention.

The delegation delivered a presentation on Malta’s National Report and engaged in peer review sessions with other regulatory bodies and international experts.

International peer review taking place in the second quarter of 2026

Malta will be holding its second full international peer review of its regulatory infrastructure, known as Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 24th May to 3rd June 2026

Malta’s and in particular the Radiation Protection Commission’s approach to international regulatory standards will be reviewed and reported upon.

The Radiation Protection Commission is currently working on completing a thorough self-assessment in preparation for the peer review.
