Commission for the Protection from Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiation

The Commission for the Protection from Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiation (Commission) was established by the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act (Cap. 585 of the Laws of Malta).

The Commission falls within the portfolio of the Ministry for European Funds, Equality, Reforms and Social Dialogue.

 

Mission Statement

To allow and regulate the beneficial and justified uses of ionising and non-ionising radiation for the well-being of the population and the environment.

Vision Statement

A culture that allows for the beneficial uses of radiation, safely.

 

Commission Policies

  • To perform all its responsibilities assigned to it in Law in a diligent, thorough, practical, confidential and fair manner.
  • To promote a safety culture within itself and strive for instilling undertakings to adopt such a culture.
  • To participate effectively in discussions regarding the development of radiation safety in international fora.
  • To maintain and adhere to a quality system. 
  • Increase the knowledge and understanding of ionising and non-ionising radiation protection by promoting education. ​

 

Structure of the Commission

The Commission consists of a Non-Executive Chairperson, a Deputy Chairperson and nine expert members whilst the executive functions are performed by its Secretariat. 

The Secretariat has an Executive Secretary who is responsible for its proper functioning. ​
